If you have questions or want to meet in Elizabethton call the leader James Price at 423-213-0042.

7-19

Moderate to Strenuous 8-mile hike on the AT from Shook Branch to Pond Flats on Pond Mountain and back. Anyone wishing to make this a quicker, less strenuous hike can do so by hiking up the mountain a shorter distance with the group, then returning to the start at their own pace. To do so, plan on driving your own car to the trailhead (17 miles from Johnson City), so you can leave as soon as you finish. Leave Long John Silvers**at 9:00 AM. You must let the leader know if you want to be met at Food City in Elizabethton at 9:20 AM. Questions-call the leader: Joel Zabel 423-926-3587 or joyjoelz@yahoo.com.

7-26

Moderate 6-mile loop hike on Clinch Mountain near Lebanon, Va. leaving from Hidden Valley Lake. Last year we hiked 10 miles across the Clinch going east. This time we launch from the same spot, but will hike west along the crest with some great overview spots looking toward Kentucky. Using an old logging road we will descend and then walk around the backside of the lake. This is a first time hike. Leader: Marcia Pruner 276-889-5714. Leave Long John Silver’s ** at 8 AM.

8-02

Strenuous 11-mile hike on the AT from Indian Grave Gap to Iron Mountain Gap. You will walk on lots of relocated trail and there may be ripe blueberries. This is the section of trail maintained by the Old Timers Hiking Club. Leave the Jonesborough Post Office at 8 AM. Leader: Howard Guinn 423-753-4072.

8-09

Strenuous 9-mile on the Straight Fork Ridge Trail and Devil’s Fork Loop Trail to Devil’s Bathtub in Scott county, Virginia. This route involves only one minor stream crossing. Meet at Kroger* at 8 AM. Leader: Bill Strang 276-523-2120 or strangwn@yahoo.com

8-16

Moderate to Strenuous 8.4-mile hike on the AT from Street Gap to Big Bald. Great view with maybe blueberries for dessert after our lunch. Leave Long John Silver’s** at 8 AM. Leader: Leader: Luke Carter 423-737-6428.

8-23

Strenuous 17-mile hike on the Old Settler’s Trail in the Smokies. This is a strenuous hike due to the mileage more than elevation gain. You can see more traces of 19th and 20th century mountain community life here than in any other area of the park. This is where Dolly Parton’s relatives lived among many other families. There are some creek crossings and a possible stream wade, so bring water shoes. Also bring lots of water, extra socks and lunch. Leave the Jonesborough Post Office at 7 AM as we have a long day. Questions-call the leader: Joy Cook, 423-913-2230
