Guests are welcome on all hikes, and at meetings.  We request that newcomers select hikes within their capabilities.  If in doubt, contact hike leaders for more information about terrain. Please bring rain gear, food, plenty of water, gas money and appropriate clothing on all hikes.  We request that no pets be brought on hikes.   Persons interested in joining the Johnson City Hikers Club and receiving the schedule should contact Faye Guinn at 753-4072. Moderate 6-8 mile hike from Indian Grave Gap to the Nolichucky River overlook. Meet at Long John Silver’s** at 9 AM. Leader: Luke Carter 423-737-6428

Moderate 6-mile hike from the Houston Valley Campground to the Meadow Creek Fire Tower and back. The climb will warm you up and we will eat at the fire tower. Meet at the Jonesborough Post Office at 8 AM. Leader: Howard Guinn 753-4072 or e-mail wegonehiking@embarquemail.com

Moderate7-mile loop hike on Holston Mountain. We’ll hike up to the Holston Mountain fire tower, and then follow Holston Mountain Trail and Flint Mill Trail to Flint Rock for lunch. Flint Rock has great views of South Holston Lake, Holston Valley and the VA’s Clinch Mountain in the distance. We’ll hike back down to the cars via an old, unused forest road. Leave Long John Silver’s** at 9:00 AM. You must let the leader know if you want to be met at Food City in Elizabethton at 9:20 AM. Moderate 6-mile hike around Oxbow Lake and around the Clinch River to St. Paul Falls in Sugar Hills Park at St. Paul, VA. There are several trails to explore in the park. Many tree-identifying plaques create interest on parts of the trail. There are state birding and wildlife viewing trails. This area was settled by the French in 1791 and is still marked by remaining chimneys. One hill is short but steep. Bring old bread to feed the ducks if you have some. Strenuous 10 mile hike on Holston Mountain starting at the Griffith Branch Trailhead. We will hike to the tower and see the Holston Hilton on the way back. Leave Long John Silvers** at 8 AM. Leader: Howard Guinn 753-4072 or wegonehiking@embarquemail.com,

Moderate 5.6-mile hike on the Pump Gap Trail starting at Tanyard Gap, N.C.  We will follow the AT south for a while on trail and on road before leaving the AT. Later we will cross the AT again. Most of the trail is woodlands with pleasant climbs and descents. This is a trail that we may never have done according to known records and unknown archivists.      Meet at the Jonesborough Post Office at 8 AM. Leader: Marcia Pruner 276-889-5714

Moderate 7-mile hike-Big Cherry Loop near High Knob in Wise County, VA. Elevation gain of 1,600 ft. with some bushwhacking. Leave Meadowview Conference Center*** at 8:30 AM or meet the leader at McDonald’s at Big Stone Gap exit on US 23 at 9 AM. Leader: Bill Strang 276-523-2120. MAH will be joining us.

Moderate to strenuous 4 to 9 mile hike on the AT from Iron Mountain Gap near Watauga Dam. This is an in and back hike that is about 20 miles from Johnson City. Hikers have the option of driving themselves to the trailhead and hiking any portion of the 9 miles. They can return to their cars at their own pace and leave before the main group completes the 9-mile hike. We hike north on the AT through Big Laurel Branch Wilderness to Vandeventer Shelter. The first three miles climb up onto the ridge of Iron Mtn. with nice views of Watauga Lake to the east and Holston Mountain to the west. Leave Long John Silvers** at 8 AM. Strenuous 10.7 mile hike on the AT. Fork Ridge Trail to Devils Fork Gap. This is a joint hike with the MAH club. Meet at Long John Sliver’s** at 8 AM. Leader: Dave McMillin 423-913-2345

Moderate 6 mile hike from Olinger Gap to US 23 near Big Stone Gap, Va. There are nice views and you might want to check with the leader just before the hike about the possibility of getting wet feet at the last creek crossing near the end of the hike.
